Produced by Steve Lillywhite. Live tracks from the
Paradise Theatre Boston - Mass. USA, March 1981.
A bit of an oddball single for U2. Released three months
in advance of the album it would promote, October
- the interesting thing about this release is how it appeared under two
different names upon release. In Ireland and the UK it was released
under the name "Fire", but in Germany it was released under the name "U2
R.O.K." a pun on the phrase "U2 Are OK". Releases under the ROK title
came with very different artwork than that released for Fire.
This release also saw some experimentation. It was the first single
to be available as a double 7", and also the first 12" single. And
in 1991 with the release of "R.O.K." on CD it became the earliest single
available in that format.
Also of note, despite the success of the previous single "I Will Follow"
in the North American markets, this single was not released in North America.
Fire / J. Swallow
Released initially on black vinyl. Other copies of
the 7" are re-releases, released as part of the second singles pack,
